Chapter One
No Pause Button!
My wife, Marsha, and I record most television shows so we can skip through the commercials, or to be able to stop the program. We just hit the pause button, and when we return to the TV, we can pick up right where we left off.
We enjoy that convenience, too, when we watch a movie at home. If we have to interrupt the movie for any reason, we just hit the pause button.
Years ago, Marsha and I took our granddaughters, Emily and Megan, to the theater to see a Walt Disney movie. At some point during the movie, Megan, age five or so, said, "Grandpa, can you hit the pause button?" I told her, "Sweetheart, there is NO PAUSE BUTTON!"
Just like at the movies, in life there is no pause button. When faced with interruptions or challenges in life, we just keep going and plow through. It would be great if those interruptions or challenges never occurred, but they do. And, if we are not prepared, that interruption or challenge could become a disaster instead
Not all challenges come from the devil, but some, in fact, do. And when those challenges (we will call them attacks from now on) come, we must be prepared to not only defend against the attacks, but to take the offensive and move ahead.
There are three things we must do to win the battles when the devil attacks. First, we must realize he will attack us. Second, we must recognize his tactics. Finally, we must resist him.
There is no doubt about it. The devil hates you and is out to attack.
